A method which utilizes a chamber in which one or more noxious substances or aversive stimulus-inducing devices, such as an electrified shock probe are located, and in which a movable material such as wood bedding or sand is available. Test subjects are observed burying the adverse stimulus under the movable material, presumably as a defensive or protective response.
